Looks a bit like a palm tree about fifty centimeters high. Also called asparagus lettuce or stem lettuce. The tender stalks of makchoi are popular as a sliced raw vegetable in Asian cuisine. Also – just like asparagus – steamed or stir-fried, it can be used for a wide range of culinary purposes.
